Crusaders and Arabs have all left their mark with temples, arcades, churches,
castles and mosques. This tour offers an excellent insight into the country’s
fascinating history.
Itinerary
Day 1 To
Damascus: Fly from London
to Damascus with bmi. Transfer to the Safir Al Sayedah Zeinab Hotel for 1
night, with immediate occupancy. (N)
Day 2 To
Crac des Chevaliers & Lattakia:
Late morning drive to visit the imposing
Crusader castle of Crac des Chevaliers. Continue to Lattakia and visit
the ancient coastal city of Ugarit. Stay overnight at the Afamia Rotana
Resort. (B, L, D)
Day 3 To
Saladin’s Castle, Serjilla & Aleppo:
Morning drive to Aleppo via Saladin’s
castle and the ruins of Serjilla, one of the many ‘Cities of the Dead’.
Stay 2 nights at the Dar Zamaria Hotel, Aleppo (2011: Beit Salahieh
hotel). (B, L, D)
Day 4
Aleppo & St. Simeon:
Morning visit to the church of St. Simeon, where the stylite sat atop
his pillar for 42 years. Afternoon tour of Aleppo. (B, D)
Day 5 To
Apamea, Hama & Homs: Drive
to the Graeco-Roman site of Apamea. Continue to Homs via Hama, noted for
its huge wooden water wheels. Stay overnight at the Safir Hotel, Homs.

Palmyra: Morning drive to
the oasis city of Palmyra for an afternoon tour. Stay overnight at the
Dedeman Hotel, Palmyra (or similar). (B, L, D)
Day 7 To
Damascus: Continue
sightseeing in Palmyra this morning and then drive to Damascus, stopping
en route in the village of Maalula where Aramaic, the language of Jesus,
is still spoken. Stay for 3 nights at the Beit Zaman Hotel, Damascus (or
similar). (B)
Day 8
Bosra & Damascus: Morning
visit to Bosra, famous for its Roman theatre. Afternoon tour of
Damascus. (B, D)
Day 9
Damascus: This morning,
continue your sightseeing of Damascus. This afternoon is at leisure to
allow time for shopping in the extensive souqs (B)
Day 10 To
London: Transfer to the
airport. Fly from Damascus to London with bmi. (B)

Day 10 To Zahlé via Anjar & Baalbek: Drive from Damascus to the Syria /
Lebanon border. After completing border formalities, visit the Umayyad city of
Anjar and the Roman temple at Baalbek. Continue to Zahlé and stay overnight at
the Grand Hotel Kadri. (B, D)
Day 11 To Harissa, Byblos & Beirut: Drive to the coast and visit Harissa.
Continue to Byblos and explore the town, with its Crusader castle and pretty
fishing harbour. Drive to Beirut and stay for 3 nights at the Commodore Hotel.

Day 12 Beirut & Jeita Grotto: Morning tour of Beirut. Afternoon visit to the
spectacular Jeita Grotto. (B)
Day 13 Beiteddine, Tyre & Sidon: Morning drive through the Chouf Mountains
to the Palace of Beiteddine, with its richly decorated rooms and mosaic
collection. Afternoon visit to Tyre and Sidon to visit the castle built in the
harbour by the Crusaders. (B)
Day 14 To London: Transfer to the airport. Fly from Beirut to London with
